Red Heart and Purple Couch in a Gold Victorian Room
A glimpse of what was once a vibrant Victorian interior scene, now fading with the passage of time. Ornate molding and baseboard frame a wall covered in gold silk damask. Gold ball studs decorate a deep purple couch. On the wall is a large, fabric covered heart in a metallic gold frame. The whole room has a vintage, rather decrepit, feel to it, with dark splotches on the walls, ceiling, furniture and gold medallion carpet. Yet one can imagine the people who have sat on the couch with drinks in one hand while engaging in lively (or quiet) conversation. It seems as if the wall heart, its dark stains contrasting with the polished trim, remembers both the heartache in the hushed tones and gaiety in the sparkling laughter.
