I’ve always wanted to model a lighting fixture with a large white orb. I found these lamps while searching for Art Deco-style fixtures:
I quickly fell in love with the one with the zigzag-like base, especially since I needed to model a lamp quick! The design’s quite simple and very Streamlined Art Deco 🙂 Unfortunately, I can’t trace who the designer was. Here’s my rendered model:
The model in the foreground is lit, with a polished chrome base. The one in the background is unlit, with a brushed silver base. I made the base a bit wider than in the photo. The wireframe view:

I hope to model the other lamps shown in the photo collage above, someday. I guess I’ll have to force myself to learn how to sculpt people digitally…

Neat! I hope you’ll model one of the Lady Lamps one day. 😉
Hey Han, thanks! When I have time I do hope to learn to sculpt in 3D to model the Lady Lamps 🙂
These orbs remind of palantir in Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings epic. LOL
Hi! Thanks for dropping by. Palantir, hahaha! Yes, now that you mentioned it they do look similar.
Did you know, last weekend I watched the LOTR movie series (the first installment, extended edition) again on DVD. Since “The Hobbit” will be shown this year I thought I might do some uh, review. 🙂
Do you remember that I read The Hobbit when I was in my early teens (book borrowed from you, of course)? Sad to say, I don’t remember any of the details… Gollum did make quite an impression, though. I found him scary then.
The models look amazingly real except for the orbs which aren’t perfectly circular.
Thank you! That’s quite observant of you. You’re absolutely right, the orbs do have an unwanted sharpness to them. I should have chosen a higher number of polygons when subdividing the object.
